In 1980, Barker emerged as the Tribe’s top pitcher posting a 19-12 record with an American League-leading 187 strikeouts in 246.1 innings pitched. On 5/15/1981, Barker pitched the 10th perfect game in Major League Baseball History at Cleveland Stadium vs Toronto Blue Jays. Barker is a member of the Greater Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame and in addition to his Alumni Ambassador duties serves as the head baseball coach at Notre Dame College.
Jaret Wright (JaretWright27)
It was a meteoric rise for the 21-year-old Wright in 1997 as he began the season at Class AAAkron, was promoted to Class AAA in May then was called up to the Major League club a month later. Wright went 8-3 during the regular season, then as the youngest pitcher ever to start a Division Series game beat the Yankees twice including the deciding Game 5. He went on to pitch in the 1997 World Series and started Game 7. In 1998, Wright’s first full season in the majors, he won 12 games while pitching a career-high 192.2 innings.
